Feeder Reader Technology

Feeder Readers helps you multiply the value of your EID Tags to identify and manage shy feeders early and maximize returns.

Shy feeders are the five to twenty percent of animals that won’t fatten efficiently because they can’t access the food due to being bullied by more dominant animals.  As a result, the under perfomring animals affects the farmer’s return.

The Feeder Reader is an electronic sensing device that is attached to a lick feeder.  Every time animals come to feed, it logs each animal’s electronic ear tag. It records the number of times the animals have eaten from the lick feeder and for how long. Those that are not logged are assumed to be shy feeders.

This data can be analysed quickly and shy feeders are immediately identified, well before they begin losing weight.  Using this information, the farmer can decide on the next management step for these animals, including separation of shy feeders from the mob with the aim of maximising return at market time.

The Feeder Reader is a decision-making tool for farmers of livestock meat production. Through the use of Electronic Identification (EID) ear-tags, the Feeder Reader provides an in-paddock solution to the identification and monitoring of the behavior of livestock feeding at
